Forskningsnettet

PRESS RELEASE:
UNI-C, as network operator of Forskningsnettet, has just signed a new framework agreement for the establishment of WAN connections. The Framework Agreement ensures the continued expansion of the network with black fiber and leased data transmission capabilities.

Forskningsnettet delivers a high capacity internet connection to all Danish universities, higher education and the research sector. The network makes it possible to transport large data amounts to research projects, and ensures the possibility of collaboration between the institutions and to international partners.

Chairman of the Forskningsnet Steering Committee, Centre Director Børge Obel, Aarhus University emphasizes the importance of the framework agreement: "In the near future we will prioritize to get the new institutions under the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Higher Education connected to Forskningsnettet. An essential prerequisite for this is the geographical coverage the selected suppliers can provide”.

The framework agreement is concluded with 6 suppliers, and the specific acquisition of network lines will be determined by mini-tenders, where price and delivery time are the award criteria. The 6 suppliers are Global Connect A/S, Jay.net A/S, Nianet A/S, SEAS NVE Holding A/S, Telia Danmark and TRE-FOR Bredbånd A/S.

Deputy Director Martin Bech, UNI-C, estimates that over the next four years there will be new network expansion projects for between 10 and 50 million DKK.

”The planned expansion projects are in particular the establishment of dark fiber connections, and here it is certainly an advantage to be able to have tenders from this strong field of suppliers. I look forward to working with six professional and talented suppliers. I am especially glad, that there are two new suppliers on the framework agreement (Jay.net and TRE-FOR Bredbånd). This shows that there is a good momentum in this business” says Martin Bech.
