Merger of data storage, processing power and network connections to strengthen Danish research

Danish Center for Scientific Computing (DCSC) and the Danish research network Forskningsnettet has merged into Danish e‐infrastructure Cooperation (DeIC). This has been done in order to strengthen the Danish effort in the e‐science area, and thereby ensuring Danish research prominence internationally.

PRESS RELEASE:
UNI-C, as network operator of Forskningsnettet, has just signed a new framework agreement for the establishment of WAN connections. The Framework Agreement ensures the continued expansion of the network with black fiber and leased data transmission capabilities.

World IPv6 Day - Forskningsnettet delivers IPv6 testbed

Today  - Wednesday 8. juni 2011 is World IPv6 Day. The day where multiple internet companies for the first time offers their services via IPv6. The day will make it possible to collect experiences to benefit from, when all IPv4 adresses are used.

 

The Return On Investment of an NREN

© ColourboxIn a recently concluded strategy process in the Danish NREN, Forskningsnettet, we were asked by our steering committee to make a thorough basis for a strategy reform. As a part of this basis, we included a calculation of the Return On Investment (ROI) of the complete set of services delivered by the NREN.

New strategic focus on infrastructure means a cut down on services

At a recent Management Committee meeting, it was decided that the Danish Research Network,  Forskningsnettet, should change its focus from
delivering services related to infrastructure, connectivity and content, to delivering exclusively services related to infrastructure and
connectivity. The research network will no longer deal with content-related services in the future.
