Videoconferencing (H.323)

The concept of video conferencing, here refers to equipment and locations, that support the standard H.323.

Rooms, equipment and local resources
Forskningsnettet gather information about video conferencing facilities at your local institution. That includes contact information, and details about existing video conferencing equipment, i.e. the location of that equipment. Some of the equipment is mobile and can be set up easily. Several concurrent connections - multipoint (MCU)
You can set up a multipoint video conference in HD quality between 24 locations, via a Radvision MCU (Multipoint Control Unit). The service is provided through a collaboration between Forskningsnettet and NORDUnet. Gatekeeper
A gatekeeper resembles a telephone book or database, as it keeps a full list of unique numbers/IDs of users. In that way, users can place a direct call to a meeting rooms or to other meeting attendees via these unique numbers. Very much similar to a phone number. Consultancy
Forskningsnettet gives advice about the use of video conferencing in general, and especially about best practice with regards to user needs. That includes advantages and disadvantages of H.323-solutions compared to desktop solutions such as Adobe Connect, or the advantage of combining the two technologies.
